I had never heard of William Baumol before this course, but
he is an economist who currently works for the Stern Business School and New
York University. William has done
extensive research in the following areas: economic growth, entrepreneurship
and innovation, industrial organization, antitrust economics and regulation,
and economics of the arts. Concerning
these areas and others, William has written 40 books and over 500 articles.
Baumol was the author of a textbook used by nearly every
economics department in the 60s and 70s to teach operations research methods in
economics. His primary area of focus is entrepreneurship,
and he received the Global Award for Entrepreneurship Research in 2003. I’m actually not entirely sure how exactly his work would relate to the
Economics of Organizations.
The Nobel Prize will be awarded in the not too distant future. I've predicted Baumol for the last several years. Lets see if he gets it this time around.
